Jonathan Auf Der Heide's Van Diemen's Land trailer

Van Diemen's Land tells the true story of Alexander Pearce, Australia's most notorious convict. In 1822, Pearce and seven convicts escaped from Macquarie Harbour, a place of ultra banishment and punishment, only to find a world less forgiving… the Australian wilderness. "Abandon all hope you who enter."

Van Diemen's Land is both written and directed by first-time Tasmanian filmmaker Jonathan Auf Der Heide, of only a short called Hell's Gates. The film was shot in Tasmania last year and is already completed. Van Diemen's Land is currently being sold at Cannes and will likely show at film festivals later this year.
