Every time I watch this trailer my mind gets blown. I think Bad Robot may have shot themselves in the foot with this one.
No matter what your stance in on this movie, There is no denying that this is one of the most epic trailers in recent history. In my opinion its right up there with, if not beyond, the first full Dark Knight trailer. When you can get the chills from listening to the audio alone it should tell you something.

Why so epic? 3 words, Amazing Sound Design! Sound has the largest effect on emotion over any other sense we humans have, and whoever cut this trailer obviously understands that. Now its not just the music, But it's pacing of the clips of dialog, It's the way each clip of speech builds upon one another and then climaxes over and over. It's beautiful.
The AMAZING song used in this trailer was composed by Thomas J. Bergersen for Two Steps from Hell, A company that specializes in music for motion picture advertising.
Here is what Thomas has to say...
"The music for *this* trailer (#3) is by Two Steps from Hell. This one is a selection called “Freedom Fighters”, from their CD Legend (“Down With The Enterprise” is on that too). Apparently Paramount liked it so much they bought an exclusive license to it for this trailer. It was the *previous* trailer used their track “Down with the Enterprise (choir)”, mixed with the virtually identical “War Begins” by Brian Tyler, from the CoD soundtrack." -Thomas J. Bergersen

Here we see another reason why film trailers, their editors, and everyone else involved deserve far greater recognition then they receive.
I'm really looking forward to seeing Star Trek but due to this trailer I fear that we may have just seen the best that this 11th Star Trek film will ever be able to bring.
But we're also very lucky because even if this movie sucks at least we have this 2 minutes and 15 seconds of amazing.

I recommend that everyone download and watch this trailer in HD. Here it is in720P and here in 1080P. Most films haven't stirred me the way this trailer has. Hope you feel it too.

TrekMovie has a first look at the cover of the official novel adaptation of the upcoming JJ Abrams‘ Star Trek movie. But forget about the cover art, the official plot synopsis on the back cover is the interesting part. No big spoilers but some interesting new details about Nero’s plans.

One grew up in the cornfields of Iowa, fighting for his independence, for a way out of a life that promised only indifference, aimlessness, and obscurity.

The other grew up on the jagged cliffs of the harsh Vulcan desert, fighting for acceptance, for a way to reconcile the logic he was taught with the emotions he felt.

In the far reaches of the galaxy, a machine of war bursts into existence in a place and time it was never meant to be. On a mission of retribution of the destruction of his planet, its half-mad captain seeks the death of every intelligent being, and the annihilation of every civilized world.

Kirk and Spock, two completely different and unyielding personalities, must find a way to lead the only crew, aboard the only ship, that can stop him.

For those who couldn’t connect the dots, James T Kirk is from Iwoa, Spock is from Vulcan, and the half-mad captain is Nero. For those interested, the book is available for preorder on Amazon for around $10.
